FAQ

While I look forward to a project enquiry, I feel there are some questions that can be done without. However, I would never disregard those, and am sure you can find answers to such questions here.

How much does a web page design cost?

I’m afraid that’s the most dreaded question in my book and it’s like asking ‘how much does a flight ticket cost?’ But you could definitely leave a few details on the number of pages you need designed, certain references or keywords on what you need the page to look like etc. just to make me able to assess how much work would go in and approximately how much it’ll cost.

Do you do coding as well?

As much as I would love to give you a publish-ready website, I’m afraid I don’t. However, I have professional associates who would develop a website design you love as-is and make it publish-ready.

What is your web design process like?

I usually work from the bottom all the way up. A typical website/page design would start at gathering the basic requirements – what your venture does, how big your venture is, the user group you’re targeting, competitors, market – to give a good research base. Following this, my process goes through:

  • Building an information hierarchy (UI layout, wireframes, CTA’s, navigation schema, UI elements).
  • Graphic design (visuals, colour schemes, artwork, type).
  • Interaction design (interaction patterns, rollover states).
  • Final layered .psd/.ai files for the page.

Can you redesign my web page?

Of course I can and I would love to. However, I prefer going through my entire design process as opposed to re-skinning the website, as I believe it leads to sturdier designs.

Do you work on Flash websites?

I do have working knowledge of ActionScript 3, but I’m not currently taking any Flash work due to various reasons. However, you could mail me the details and I’d love to take it up if it sounds exciting.

What kind of graphic design services do you provide?

I love working on identity design projects, branding, info-graphics, brochures. I feel graphic design is an integral part of any product/service and I’m always looking forward to apply visual design principles to the said product/service.

Do you do artwork as well?

As part of a design project, yes. I prefer not to work on standalone illustrations as I feel there are a plenty brilliant artists out there who would do better justice to your requirements.

What is your identity design process like?

Like any other design process, graphic design is an application of creativity to analysis and logic (it works the other way round as well). I firmly believe starting on a software with colour tools gives no respect to the (graphic) design profession. I love doing research to come up with various levels of abstraction for users’ mental models and then proceed to paper to find ways of simplifying these into graphic forms.

What are the project deliverables like?

I fully understand design being a feedback-driven iterative process. For this, I do permit, rather encourage, revisions on items delivered. At the end of any project, I deliver a complete guideline document (web style guide, identity guidelines etc.).

What about transportation design? Why the switch?

As ironic as it is, I am a qualified transportation designer. I have done extensive research on wayfinding, signage & information systems as applied to mobility and moving into interaction design has been none other than a logical step. However, I do work as a transportation designer and have been an active collaborator with urban designers, grassroots organisations and institutions to expand my professional and knowledge base.

Anything else?

Well, yes. I am part of a collaboration called studio dot box (website under construction) and we work on larger-scale projects in exhibitions, branding, retail and application of interaction design to space design.
